据了解，目前在发达国家，是按大小将矿标分成以下几个等级的，即：拇指型，3厘米以下；微缩型，3――6厘米；橱窗型，6――10厘米；大型橱窗型，即人们通常所说的博物馆级的，10厘米以上。现在西方矿晶市场上，最常见的矿标一般都是6厘米左右的。6厘米能有多大呢？还不到手掌大！
 

其实很多美丽的晶体都很微小，要用特殊的显微相机才能拍出它们的晶体，虽然没有一般矿标那么值钱，但魅力不亚于正常的矿物标本。
以下标本基本都是MM级的，mm就是毫米，他们应该用的是显微照相，我们生物学上也用这种仪器。就是在矿物显微镜或者实体镜上连接上一个感光系统，其实也就是给照相机连上一个显微镜或者实体镜镜头，然后在旁边的电脑上操作，就可以照下显微镜下面的矿物晶体了。我们的显微镜可以照到大概几十微米的东西，几毫米应该不是太困难。

This is a "rare brazilian ballas" according to the diamond trade - this is a fascinating SPHERICAL diamond with no crystal form, measuring 6mm in diameter and with a smooth surface like a pearl. It is entirely translucent. Ballas are almost impossible to cut because even other diamonds have serious trouble cutting them. (3.75 carats). Posted by Dr. Robert Lavinsky.

漂亮的稀有矿小球，像是某种冰激凌球，蓝绿色的，如果偏黄点的话就是纯粹青苹果味的了。

勉强算做薄荷味的吧，依然很好吃。

很漂亮的橘红色水晶，棱柱面很短，所以看上去很奇妙的样子。

PS：

考证了一下，Jacinto是西班牙语，橘红色的意思，de Compostela是地名，指的是Santiago de Compostela，圣地亚哥-德 孔波斯特拉（或者翻译成孔波斯特拉的圣地亚哥），西班牙加里西亚自治区的首府。相传耶稣十二门徒之一的雅各安葬於此。到此地的朝圣者使用这种水晶作为护身符，因而得名。

翻译过来大概可以是“孔波斯特拉的橘红色水晶”。

传说中可怕的放射性矿物出现了。

在国内，大家总是谈放射性而色变，其实放射性矿物并没有那么可怕。首先，强放射性矿物非常少，而且这种矿石一般价格高昂，并不是那么容易得到的；其次，只要措施得当，放射伤害相当容易被避免，一个铅盒或者厚铅玻璃盒完全可以解决问题。所以只要人们正视它，放射性矿物完全可以被乖乖地驯服。面对放射性矿物，中国的确缺少软硬件条件：软件方面，很多人不懂放射性到底为何物，什么东西应该有放射性，什么东西不会有；而硬件方面，要买到一个大小合适的铅盒或者铅玻璃盒的确也不是一件容易的事情，就连装普通矿物的有机玻璃盒都难寻。但我坚信道路是曲折的，前途是光明的。

我们在普及矿物标本收藏的同时，也应该深化大家对矿物的认识，懂矿物不应该只限于哪几种矿能卖多少钱。另外，一些矿物周边产业也应该得到一定的发展，比如说容器，鉴定工具等等。

Molybdenite  辉钼矿，最完整的硬度1的矿

A superb, lustrous, 1.0 mm Molybdenite crystal, exhibiting horizontally striated pyramidal faces. The specimen was collected by, measured by, and is in the collection of, Robert Boggs. It was collected circa 1985 from the milepost 164.5 area. About six specimens were recovered from one end of a 200 pound boulder. This is the finest specimen from the find. Robert O. 又是两种之前没听说过的矿物，而且都长得那么冰清玉洁，不愧于它们的产地，极北的格林兰。
